On Monday at 7:11 p.m. the Iron Mountain Fire Department (IMFD) responded to a report of
structure fire at 901 East G Street.
Engine 2202 with an initial crew of 4 Firefighters responded and dispatch was requested to call a code 3
which notified all off duty IMFD personnel. E2202 arrived on the scene within 3 minutes of the call and
found a single-story residential ranch style home with light smoke coming from the attic vents and
heavy smoke coming from the front of the home. The captain performed a quick size up of the scene
while 2 crew members stretched a hose line into the residence to perform initial fire extinguishment. A
request for mutual aid was made by the captain asking for Kingsford and Breitung Twp fire departments
to respond. A second handline was stretched for fire extinguishment while 150 feet of 5-inch supply
hose was hand jacked to a hydrant to secure a water supply. Interior crews found heavy smoke and fire
conditions in the kitchen and dining room area of the home and extinguished a majority of the fire. Fire
crew started ventilation of the home and checking for fire extension with pockets of fire in the ceiling
and attic.
Smoke and heat damage throughout a majority of the home and heavy fire damage was maintained to
the kitchen and dining room areas.
There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported.
Assisting at the scene were: Breitung Twp FD, Kingsford FD, Iron Mountain Police Department, DTE gas,
Wisconsin Electric, Integrity Care EMS, Iron Mountain DPW, Dickinson County Victim Service Unit, and
the Red Cross.
All units were clear of the scene by 9:32 p.m.
The homeowner had no working smoke alarms which allowed the fire to go undetected and rapidly
grow in size, while also causing a delay in notifying 911 of the fire.
