The shooting in May that left an Amberg man dead has been ruled justified under Wisconsin law. According to the Marinette County District Attorney, on May 29th, William Freed had been shot by his wife Lori in their Amberg home shortly after 8pm. The investigation reveals that the couple been arguing. Lori Freed proceeded to the bedroom to listen to music when William entered the room with a rifle, something he had never done before. She feared for her life and shot her husband with a pistol that was kept in the bedroom. Lori told officers she knew her husband kept his weapons loaded. When officers went into the trailer, they found William Freed lying in the hallway deceased from a bullet wound to the chest. There was a loaded 30/30 rifle located partially underneath his body with a bullet in the chamber and the hammer was in the firing position. This was determined to be the cause of death of William Freed. After an extensive investigation, the shooting was deemed justified under Wisconsin law and no charges will be filed at this time. Law enforcement will continue to investigate any new information that is brought forward.
