Significant Weekend Winter Storm
The Marinette County Highway Department is urging residents to stay off the roads as the National Weather Service (NWS) is predicting a significant winter storm for much of Northeast Wisconsin Saturday evening through Monday afternoon, including potential for near blizzard conditions.
The Marinette County Roadway Weather Information Systems (RWIS) are predicting 20 to 29 inches of snow over the next 72 hours, along with high winds that will cause blowing and drifting snow. These conditions are expected to significantly reduce visibility and make travel extremely hazardous.
Residents of Marinette County are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm. Blowing and drifting snow may quickly cover the roadways, making them difficult to navigate. Additionally, high winds and heavy snowfall could delay emergency response times.
Highway Department crews will be working throughout the storm; however, the snowfall rates and wind conditions may slow their ability to keep the roads clear. Keeping roads free of unnecessary traffic will allow for more effective snow removal operations and help emergency responders operate safely and efficiently.
If you must travel, slow down, allow extra time to reach your destination, and be prepared for changing conditions. Drivers are encouraged to carry emergency supplies in their vehicles, including blankets, water, a phone charger, and other winter safety items.
