During Administrative Professionals Week, 101.5 Frog Country-100.7 Radio Now-106.7 The Mountain held a fundraiser that will be done annually for a different charity each year. This year we chose Habitat for Humanity Home Repair Program.
Thanks to First National Bank & Trust Iron Mountain-Kingsford for their major sponsorship of this event. Without them, we couldn’t purchase the new designer purses and order the wine for the wine tasting.
Gently used purses and accessories were donated from the public and those were put on Silent Auction. There were 35 new designer purses, everything from Coach, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, and more! These purses were in the LIVE auction portion of the event.
It was a great partnership; Sandy White from Habitat for Humanity used a Thrivent Action Team to pay for most of the appetizers. All of this helped defray costs and made a $4414.45 donation to the Habitat Home Repair Program. Currently, there are over 15 people waiting for projects that they can’t afford. Everything from roofs to wheelchair ramps. This program is not FREE. If the family’s project is selected, they make an affordable monthly payment back to Habitat each month on a zero percent interest loan for the cost of the materials. The fund gets depleted very quickly with sewer lines caving in the front yard and more.
Now, the radio stations are offering you the chance to help select the charity for the 2019 Purse and Pour event. To submit, write a 200 word or less entry to the radio station on why your favorite charity should be chosen to be the benefactor next year. Deadline is June 30th, 2018. The radio station staff will choose the best entry and will start working with them for the 2019 event. Mail your entry to WJNR Radio, c/o Purse and Pour, 212 W. J. Street, Iron Mountain, MI 49801.
