(MT. PLEASANT, MI.)–Shots have been fired at a residence hall on Central Michigan University’s campus.
Police report that shots were fired in Campbell Hall on its campus in Mount Pleasant. The university says the suspect is still at large, and police are urging students to take shelter.
The suspect is 19-year-old James Eric Davis, Jr. who is approximately 5’9”. He is wearing mustard yellow jeans and a blue hoodie. He is considered armed and dangerous.
All schools in Mount Pleasant and all city buildings are on lockdown.
Central Michigan University police confirm two individuals were fatally shot at Campbell Hall on campus this morning. The deceased are not students and police believe the situation started from a domestic situation.
Davis was released from the hospital this morning, shortly before the shooting.
Police said they had contact with him late Thursday night and took him to a local hospital, where he was turned over to the medical staff for what police believe may have been some sort of drug-related issue.
Police said cameras located in the common area and exits of the dorm captured Davis leaving the dorm, headed north and running along train tracks. Police said they had recovered pieces of clothing along the tracks.
Today is the last day before spring break. Many students had already left campus, but others were planning to leave today.
CMU is asking anyone who is planning to come to campus today to pick up students for spring break to stay off campus until further notice. University officials are asking them to go to a nearby hotel, where university staff will be on site to support the families.
