(CHASSELL TOWNSHIP, MI)–Michigan Department of Transportation officials have declared the bridge over the Sturgeon River open. The temporary lane closures had been put into place since February 3rd when a four vehicle fatal accident occurred. One of the vehicles involved in the crash, was a tanker truck carrying fuel. It was estimated more than 4,000-gallons of fuel was released onto the roadway and surrounding area. The Michigan Deartment of Environmental Quality, The U.S. Evironmental Protection Agency, Western U.P. Health Department and various private contractors have been working on the cleanup for over three weeks.
