Wausaukee Explosion-8/11/2026

On Friday, August 7, 2026, at approximately 10:34 a.m., Marinette County Dispatch was notified of a
residential explosion on Finnel Road in the Town of Wausaukee, Marinette County. The Wausaukee Fire
Department and Wausaukee Rescue responded to the scene along with deputies from the Marinette
County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arrival, the residence was found to be fully engulfed with fire.
After fire suppression efforts were completed, a search was conducted, and two occupants were located,
removed from the residence, and were pronounced dead at the scene. They were identified as Roger N.
McClellan, age 81, of Wausaukee and Barabara A. McClellan, age 79, of Wausaukee. The fire remains
under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Justice State Fire Marshals, Marinette County
Sheriff’s Office, and the Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office. Our thoughts and prayers are
with the McClellan family during this difficult time.
Also assisting at the scene were members from Wisconsin DNR Fire, Amberg Fire, Mellen Township
Fire, Middle Inlet Fire, Beecher Dunbar Pembine Fire, Athelstane Fire, and Crivitz Fire.
