Pursuant to the Marinette County Code of Ordinances Chapter 22.04 and Wisconsin State Statutes 349.16,
Marinette County Highway seasonal weight restrictions will take effect at 12 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, and
will remain in effect until further notice.
To protect the highways in Marinette County, the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol
will enforce spring weight restrictions on all county trunk highways. These restrictions are essential for the economic
longevity and structural integrity of the highways, which can deteriorate significantly when the ground is weakened
and softened from melting frost.
The restrictions for all county highways (lettered roads) are as follows: a maximum of 6 tons per single axle and 10
tons per tandem axle group. The maximum gross vehicle weight allowed is 28 tons. Please note that all non-divisible
overweight permits will be suspended during this period. Permits to exceed these limits may be issued on a limited
basis.
Exemptions to these road restrictions apply to highway maintenance vehicles, school buses, emergency vehicles,
and haulers for milk, seed potatoes, livestock, perishable foods, solid waste (residential or commercial), and
leachate.
Please be aware that these restrictions do not cover town roads. For information on weight restrictions for town
roads, please contact the towns directly.
