Iron Mountain, MI (February 3, 2025) – Area 10th-grade students will have the opportunity to learn about careers in healthcare through hands-on experiments, simulations and demonstrations at the first annual Health Care Career Day on February 21 at Bay College Iron Mountain Campus.
Local healthcare providers, along with the DIISD Tech Center and Bay College, will share information about educational opportunities to prepare students for entering the workforce in a healthcare career upon graduating high school. Leading the sessions are representatives from:
- Bay College
- Bellin Health
- Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson
- Norway Eye Care
- The John Fornetti Dental Center
- Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center
“The healthcare industry is the second biggest employment sector in our region,” remarked Mindy Meyers, director of The Alliance. “Not all careers in healthcare require a 4-year degree or advanced medical schooling. Students will also learn about dual enrollment educational paths through the Dickinson-Iron ISD Tech Center and Bay College.”
“Those working in the professional trades play a crucial role in the health of our local economy. We need to shift perspectives about what successful careers look like, “remarked Meyers. “We expect 320 students from Kingsford, Iron Mountain, North Dickinson, Norway, Florence, and some homeschool students to be in attendance.”
