The Iron Mountain Police Department and Iron Mountain Fire Department responded to two emergencies calls today.
At approximately 12:03pm, the Iron Mountain Police Department and the Iron Mountain Fire Department were dispatched to a traffic crash that occurred on Stephenson Ave. (US–2) at Ludington Street, in Iron Mountain.
It was reported the operator of the vehicle suffered from a medical condition which contributed to the traffic crash. The vehicle had stopped on Stephenson Ave., south of Ludington Street. Witnesses said the operator appeared unconscious. The vehicle then drove forward, onto the curb. The vehicle struck approximately 3 concrete flower pots on the sidewalk, continued driving along the sidewalk from south of Ludington Street, to Brown Street where the vehicle struck a fire hydrant and the building at the corner of Stephenson Ave. and Brown Street. The driver of the vehicle was transported to the Marshfield Dickinson Hospital by Integrity Care EMS. The driver was reported to be in stable condition.
The Iron Mountain Police Department and the Iron Mountain Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department, Integrity Care EMS, and the Iron Mountain Department of Public Works.
At approximately 1:39pm, an Iron Mountain Officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle after watching the vehicle drive off the road and into a concrete flower pot. The vehicle continued driving, making no attempts to stop.
The vehicle operator attempted to flee from the Officer, eventually turning onto West Hughitt Street. The vehicle increased its speed until reaching the 900 block of West Hughitt Street, where the vehicle struck a parked and unoccupied pick–up truck. The vehicle was disabled and the driver sustained injuries. The driver was transported to the Marshfield Dickinson County Hospital. The extent of injuries are not known at this time.
The Officer immediately called for Integrity Care EMS and the Iron Mountain Fire Department for assistance.
