LEMONADE DAY IS COMING TO IRON MOUNTAIN MAY 18 th !
Lemonade Day is coming to Iron Mountain on Saturday, May 18 th . That day will be busy with
spring events, but Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Suzanne Larson,
urges residents to stop at one of the many lemonade stands that will be all around our area.
“The kids have been working very hard on their lemonade stands and now we are urging
residents to stop in and buy one (or more) glasses of refreshing lemonade from one of many
budding entrepreneurs.”
Lemonade Day is a non-profit organization developed by Michael Holthouse in 2007. His
daughter came to him wanting to buy a turtle. Being an entrepreneur and philanthropist, he
decided on a lemonade stand, but also was thinking bigger: many parents across the country
deal with this very issue: wanting kids to earn money instead of just handing money to their
children. Lemonadeday.org was born.
Larson brought Lemonade Day to Iron Mountain last year. After visiting with her son in Dallas,
TX, she decided to visit the chambers of commerce along the drive. The Galveston, TX
chamber was where she found Lemonade Day. “The director there was so excited to talk with
me about how we can bring Lemonade Day to the UP. And we did.” Looking upon year 2 now,
Larson is excited to open this event up to any child that would like to have the experience of
owning their first business: a lemonade stand. “The beautiful thing about Lemonade Day is that
the kids learn financial literacy, philanthropy, entrepreneurship & social skills-all necessary
things to owning a business,” noted Larson. If you live anywhere in our area, Michigan or
Wisconsin, you can join in on the fun.
Larson also noted that Lemonade Day does not happen without big sponsors. Signature “Main
Squeeze” sponsors include Iron Mountain Kingsford Community Federal Credit Union, The First
National Bank & Trust, Grede, Nicolet Bank, Laborers’ Union Local 1329 and Great North Bank.
Fresh Squeeze Sponsors include Northern Interstate Bank, IM K Kiwanis, UP State Credit
Union. Other sponsors include Dickinson Area Community Foundation, Bay College Iron
Mountain, Radio Results Network, 41 Lumber, Advanta Print, UP State Bank, Incredible Bank,
Frog Country Radio, Walmart, Imagination Factory Childrens Museum & Loyal 2 Local.
“We simply could not hold an event of this magnitude without our incredible sponsors,” said
