(IRON MOUNTAIN, MI.)–Saturday at 7:29pm Iron Mountain Fire Department firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire. Smoke was detected coming from the roof and eves at 414 West Fleshiem Street. The structure sustained moderate to heavy fire damage in the basement then traveled in the walls to the first and second stories which sustained light fire damage and moderate smoke damage. No one was home at the time of the fire, however, a pet cat perished from smoke inhalation. The fire was declared under control at 8:59pm with crews remaining on scene until 10:30pm, extinguishing “hot spots.” The cause of the fire is currently listed as “undetermined.” Assisting the Iron Mountain Fire Department was Kingsford Public Safety, Iron Mountain Police, Iron Mountain DPW, Beacon Ambulance and We Energies.
