(MARINETTE, WI.)–Marinette County District Attorney DeShea D. Morrow has determined that the shooting death of a Virginia man by police was justified under circumstances and no criminal charges will be brought against the officers. Jesse Cole Shuping was shot by two City of Marinette Police Officers and two Marinette County Sheriff’s Deputies. The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) conducted a thorough investigation of the incident and gathered evidence which included witness statements, video from different squad cars, and physical evidence collected at the scene. The evidence showed that the officers acted appropriately and in accordance with their professional training. The DCI report stated that a subject with a gun threatened and pointed a gun at two people in a hotel in Marinette. After investigating the incident, officers found Shuping in the driveway at the residence. Officers attempted to talk to Shuping but he ignored them and fled in his vehicle. Shuping lost control of his vehicle and was pinned in ditch by a deputy, preventing him from driving away. Shuping exited the vehicle and turned towards the officers with a gun in his hand. He fired a round in the direction of the officers and they fired back, striking him. Jesse Shuping died as a result of the gunshot wounds.
