(IRON RIVER TOWNSHIP, MI.)–Deputies from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a personal injury crash this date. At approx. 12:59PM Iron County Central Dispatch received a call of a two vehicle crash on US-2 near the intersection of the Gibbs City Road in Iron River Township. A Ford Fusion driven by a Watersmeet woman was westbound on US-2 when it was struck by a Ford F-250 driven by an Iron River man who was exiting his driveway. The jaws of life were needed to extract female driver from her vehicle. She was transported by Aspirus EMS to their Iron River hospital and airlifted to Wausau Aspirus for treatment of her injuries. Iron County Deputies were assisted at the scene by Michigan State Troopers, the Iron River Police Department, Iron County Search and Rescue, West Iron Fire, and Aspirus EMS. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the cause of the crash; the driver was arrested by Deputies and lodged on suspected OWI causing injury.
