(IRON MOUNTAIN, MI)– Gundlach Champion, Inc. (GCI) is pleased to announce that it was recently awarded the 2017 Build Michigan Award in the Design-Build category for construction of the Marquette Municipal Service Center by the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Michigan. The award was presented at the Annual Meeting on February 16, 2018, at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center in East Lansing, Michigan. The Build Michigan Award recognizes new construction and renovation projects in building construction, environmental, construction management, and design-build. Projects are judged on meeting the challenge of a difficult job, excellence in project management, innovation in construction techniques, sensitivity to the environment, responsiveness to client needs, and the contractor’s contribution to the community. Sara Cambensy, former Marquette City Commissioner and current State Representative, stated “When a city has the chance to build a brand new state-of-the-art public works facility, it truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and leadership has one chance to get it right. With our budget smaller than anticipated and our building needs greater than most as the largest municipality in the Upper Peninsula, the project goals and timeline we demanded were anything but desirable. Yet one company came forward and guaranteed it could be done. Gundlach Champion completed our project the way we envisioned it without sacrificing an ounce of quality along the way. Their knowledge, attention to detail, exceptional communication skills, and ability to perform flawlessly under pressure on our design-build project earned them the respect and trust of our city officials and employees.” “AGC of Michigan is proud to honor Michigan contractors who have pushed environmental, design, and management limits in the commercial construction industry while maintaining a firm focus on our core values of skill, integrity, and responsibility,” said Damian P. Hill, President of AGC of Michigan. The AGC of Michigan is a full-service construction trade association providing safety, education and training, legislative and regulatory advocacy, human resources, labor relations options, construction information, and affinity programs. The statewide organization represents more than 400 members and the AGC of America represents more than 32,000 firms. Gundlach Champion was acknowledged at the State Capital with a special tribute in the State House by State Representatives Sara Cambensy and Scott Dianda. Jim Ebli, President of Gundlach Champion, stated, “We are honored to receive this Special Tribute from our Upper Peninsula Delegation and the State of Michigan. It is a testament of our company’s office and field employees’ commitment to our vision, while providing construction services safely with skill, integrity, and responsibility on all of our projects.” Gundlach Champion, Inc. is the marriage of two of the nation’s most storied and inventive firms: Herman Gundlach, Inc. founded in 1898, and Champion, Inc. founded in 1921.
