(CRYSTAL FALLS, MI.)–Iron County Sheriff, Mark Valesano, said on February 10th, at 5:40am, his deputies were dispatched to a stranded motorist stuck in the snow in Hermatite Township early Saturday morning. poor cell phone reception and a language barrier, made locating the individual difficult. After approximately 2-hours of searching for the individual, he was located in the remote area near Bone Lake, stuck in a unplowed two track road. Upon further investigation the driver was from another state and was unfamiliar with the area. The driver was utilizing GPS directions with led him on the wrong route to his destination. A tow truck was requested which pulled the vehicle out of the snow. The individual was then able to continue toward his destination. Iron County Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by Iron County Central Dispatch and K&D Towing of Iron River. Sheriff Valesano is reminding motorists to prepare and equip themselves with some basic emergency gear in case you find yourself stranded in winter weather. Water
