(IRON MOUNTAIN, MI.)–At its third quarterly meeting of 2018, 100+ Women Who Care in Dickinson County selected the Dickinson County Cancer Unit Loan Closet to push the group’s total donations over $513,000 for local 501(c)(3) charities and organizations in our area.
With another standing-room-only crowd at Pine Grove Country Club, the group heard presentations from three 501(c)(3) organizations before making their decision.
The Dickinson County Cancer Unit Loan Closet serves all of Dickinson County as well as surrounding Wisconsin communities.
In 2017 they helped 113 cancer clients and 308 non-cancer clients who were able to borrow medical equipment such as lift chairs, wheelchairs, shower chairs, transfer benches, toilet risers, over-the-bed tables, knee walkers, straight and 4-prong canes, crutches, walkers, and wigs. Cancer clients can keep their equipment for as long as needed with the exception of lift chairs which need yearly maintenance and cleaning.
They also have a program through which financial aid clients can receive at no cost Ensure supplements, incontinent supplies, cancer prescription drug assistance, and mileage reimbursement for out-of-town doctor appointments.
Thus far, in 2018, they have helped 188 clients.
The funding from 100+ Women, over $23,000, will enable them to replace some of their equipment and upgrade their nutritional supplies, as well as making other improvements that are needed to serve their clients.
The next meeting for 100+ Women is scheduled for Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at which time another 501(c)(3) nomination will be chosen.
All interested women are invited to participate. For more information or to join 100+ Women, email dc100women@gmail.com.
