(NORWAY, MI)– Voters on Tuesday defeated the $3.1 million bond proposal, that would have generated money for a new heating system, safety features and minor improvements to the Norway-Vulcan Area Schools complex. The voting was 376 No to 341 Yes. The school district is made up of the city of Norway, Norway Township and Waucedah Township in Dickinson County, as well as Faithorn Township in Menominee County. The school’s boiler system was the focus in what is in need of replacing. The question is expected to appear on a future ballot. Meanwhile, the school district plans to ask for a renewal of its operating millage of 17.94 mills, or $17.94 per $1,000 of taxable value, in the Aug. 7 election.
