(IRON MOUNTAIN, MI) — Dickinson County Healthcare System (DCHS) is among eight hospitals in the state — and the only health system in the Upper Peninsula — to earn an Excellence Award in patient safety from the Economic Alliance for Michigan. This is the third year of the awards and DCHS has earned the Excellence Award for all 3 years. The 2018 EAM Hospital Patient Safety Award recognizes hospitals for consistency in patient safety and quality of care. Hospitals receiving the award must report to The Leapfrog Group survey for two consecutive years, in 2016 and 2017, and maintain all “A’s” in hospital safety scores for four consecutive six-month grading terms. John Schon, DCHS administrator-CEO, said the Economic Alliance for Michigan (EAM) award is the result of “a strong and coordinated effort between our physicians and hospital staff to consistently provide the best care we can for our loyal patients that utilize our health care services.” Schon said that it is this team approach to caring for our patients that makes the difference and has allowed DCHS to be recognized as one of the safest hospitals in Michigan over the past three years by the EAM.”
