FHS Tech Fair
Florence, WI…. Please join Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, among many others, at the 2nd Annual FHS Tech Fair at Florence County High School on Wednesday, May 10th from 12:30-3:30pm in the Florence High School gymnasium. The general public and parents of school age students are invited to attend to learn more about how our school district is partnering with industry to prepare students for the high-demand, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) Jobs that are available at area businesses. STEAM curriculum is being integrated throughout the 7th-12th grades and will be expanded into the Elementary grades in the future. This Tech Fair will give 7th – 12th graders the chance to interact with area businesses in order to make more informed decisions for their future careers and what high school coursework is needed to reach their goals.
Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, along with Executive Director of Wisconsin Association of School Boards, John Ashley and Executive Director of Wisconsin Rural Schools Association, Kim Kaukul will be speakers during the 1:30 keynote session.
Representatives from our Industry will be on hand to address student, parent and public questions related to potential jobs and careers as well as what soft skills, technical learnings are needed to be employable. Industry partners that will be participating are Systems Control, Boss Snowplow, CCI Systems, Florence Hardwoods, Pride Sports, Verso Corp., Great Lakes Timber Professionals and Lodal Manufacturing. The students will also attend an Alumni Panel to learn tips and advice from past FHS graduates who now work in our regional industries.
Students currently enrolled in Fab Lab and other hands-on technology coursework will have projects on display to showcase what they are producing and the real world learnings they have acquired from their projects.
Northeast Wisconsin Technical College will be showcasing their electromechanical trailer, in addition to two trucks from their diesel engine program. In addition, MJ Electric will have a session showcasing a piece of their equipment. Ponsee will have a harvester simulator on site, with the Strue family of CTL Timber Harvesting on hand to share and discuss timber harvesting opportunities and careers. Michgan Works and WI Job Center will also be on hand to discuss career demand and preparation, and certainly will be open to meeting with the public to share of career opportunities.
The Fab Lab will be open during this time for public tours. In addition, the first plans of the high school renovation will be available for viewing, specifically the renovations of the entire Tech Ed. and Fab Lab areas.
