On April 12, 2017 at 10:30 pm area law enforcement received a bulletin from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office requesting officers attempt to locate a silver Pontiac Vibe being operated by a female from Oshkosh, WI. The purpose for the locate request was to check on the person’s welfare as she was reported to be distraught and had made suicidal comments. Information was provided that she could be headed for Escanaba, MI and that she may be armed with a pistol and a shotgun.
At approximately 11:13 pm a Marinette Sheriff’s deputy observed the vehicle described in the bulletin operating northbound on US 41 just outside the Marinette city limits. Officers from the Marinette Police Department responded to the deputy’s location and a traffic stop was subsequently made in a parking lot located in the 3000 block of Cleveland Ave.
As officers attempted to establish communication with the lone occupant of the vehicle they observed the female driver with a handgun which she directed at herself. Officers heard a single gunshot from inside the vehicle and upon investigating further found the female deceased of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The deceased was identified as Jacqueline M. Dagenais, 30 years of age, from Oshkosh, WI. In addition to the Marinette Sheriff’s Office, the Marinette Police Department was also assisted by Peshtigo Police, Marinette County Coroner George Smith, Emergency Rescue Squad, BAMC Paramedics, and the Marinette Fire Department.
