(WAUSAU, WI.)– Lon Roberts is now secretary of the Department of Financial Institutions. Roberts retired in December as a partner and shareholder at Ruder Ware law firm in Wausau, according to a release from the state. He served as president of the business and focused on business and commercial law, primarily in the areas of corporate mergers and acquisitions, finance, lending and private equity capital transactions. He was president of the Grand Theater Foundation and past president of the Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce. He also serves on the Wisconsin Law Foundation and has annually received the Best Lawyers in America recognition for Corporate Law and Mergers & Acquisition Law since 2007. Walker appointed Roberts as the chairman of the state’s Investment Board in 2012 and as a committee member of the Judicial Selection Advisory Committee in 2011.Roberts earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and his juris doctorate from UW-Madison, the release states.Walker also announced Thursday the appointment of Ray Allen as secretary of the Department of Workforce Development, replacing Reggie Newson. Allen had been the Financial Institutions secretary, the position Roberts will take. “Ray and Lon are both exceptional leaders, and we welcome them to their new roles and thank them for their service to the people of Wisconsin,” Walker said in the release.
