(IRON MOUNTAIN, MI.)–More discussion at the Monday night meeting of the Iron Mountain City Council pointed out again ‘snowmobiles are not permitted to use city streets,’ no matter what the reason. Many have been leaving the snowmobile trails to drive onto city streets to and from gas stations. Many, as consumers….those who are staying in motels on the north end of the city, are using sidewalks to venture to the gas station, blocks away. Council members discussed the concern as a way to point out to snowmobilers they are in violation of the law if they use the streets. The only area, near Lake Antoine Road, where there is an assigned trail system and crossing, permits snowmobilers near the city’s streets. The ORV and UTV ordinance is under a one year review process, where at the end of the year, they (Iron Mountain City Council) will determine whether or not the ordinance will continue.
