(IRON MOUNTAIN, MI.)–Systems Control received a tax break Monday for a $9.9 million addition at its Iron Mountain manufacturing facility, as well as a concession from the city on terms of the abatement. They will receive a 50-percent tax reduction for 12-years. The council’s vote was unanimous. The 89,000-square-foot addition will increase their footage to 403,000 square feet including their headquarters, manufacturing and engineering areas. The additional space will be devoted mainly to the manufacture of electrical substation equipment and energy storage enclosures. The project should be completed in March. Also, the council approved the Commercial Rehabilitation Exemption for Hillcrest Realty for Erickson Jewelers. They qualified for a tax break at their downtown location on Stephenson Avenue. The investment was $450,000 in improvements. They will also be exempt from property taxes for six years under the city’s economic development incentive. It is hoped that will encourage other businesses to do the same.
