(MADISON, WI.)–Representative Jeff Mursau (R–Crivitz) congratulated five area school districts on being awarded School Safety grants earlier this week. During the grant presentation in Eau Claire, Attorney General Brad Schimel announced the recipients of this round of School Safety grants, including five to school districts serving the 36th Assembly District:
- Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine School District – $41,233
- Bonduel School District – $61,428
- Elcho School District – $50,665
- Shawano School District – $85,725
- Wausaukee School District – $59,371
“I am happy to see so many of these grants going to schools in our area,” said Mursau. “The funds from these grants will continue to help more and more schools serving families in the 36th Assembly District keep their teachers and students safe.”
The School Safety Grant Program was created by last session’s bill, 2017 Act 143. The program is administered by the Office of School Safety at the DOJ and is set to award a total of $100 million in grant funds to Wisconsin schools to enhance school safety and preparedness. It was announced at a previous grant presentation that the DOJ plans to use any remaining funds for a second round of grants, which will focus on improving student mental health and creating local School Safety Intervention teams, along with additional structural and physical security updates.
“Making sure that everyone feels safe in our schools is so important,” expressed Mursau. “That is why I am proud to have supported this bill when it was in the legislature, as well as other measures to continue to make sure our kids have a safe and secure place to learn and grow.”
