(COMMONWEALTH, WI.)–Two students from Florence High School were killed in a traffic crash this morning on County Highway N in the town of Commonwealth. The driver of the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve about a mile north of Power Dam Road, crossed the centerline of the roadway striking a tree. The vehicle burst into flames upon impact according to Chief Deputy, Dave Gribble. The accident was reported by a passing motorist shortly before 6:30am. The names of the victims are not being released at this time. School staff and counselors will be available for students beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday at Florence High School. Please check in upon entering the grand staircase at the front entrance of the 1930s building, school officials said. Several units assisted Florence County deputies at the scene including Homestead Fire Department, Florence Fire Department, Aurora-Homestead Rescue Squad and Beacon Ambulance. Wisconsin State Patrol is conducting a reconstruction investigation of the accident.
