(BREITUNG TOWNSHIP, MI.)–A Michigan State Police trooper from the Iron Mountain Post, was operating his squad car at the north junction behind a tractor-trailer flatbed rig loaded with equipment when the driver failed to negotiate the turn from M-95 onto US-2, operated by a 76-year old Quinnesec man. The semi struck a utility pole pulling down the stop and go traffic lights at the intersection. No one was injured in incident, however, the driver was forced to remain in his rig because of power lines which draped across the truck and until WE Energies could shut off electricity. The junction of M-95 and US-2 was closed to thru traffic for approximately three hours while emergency crews worked to clear debris from the intersection. That was the point of detours as well utilizing the Pine Mountain Road and the Traders Mine Road. Troopers were assisted at the scene by Breitung Township Fire Department, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office ad Dickinson County Road Commission.
