(IRON COUNTY, MI.)–Troopers from the Iron Mountain Post received a call from Aspirus Hospital in Iron River in reference to a person in the emergency department suffering a gunshot wound to his foot. An investigation of the incident revealed an 18-year old male was hunting with his father, when he observed a deer. He was using a 30.06 rifle; he disengaged the safety, slipped at which time the rifle discharged with the bullet striking him in his right foot. He underwent surgery for the self-inflicted gunshot wound at Aspirus Hospital and is being treated for non life threatening injuries, according to investigating troopers.
