In a recent White House presentation,V.A Secretary Dr. David Shulkin gave his state of the V.A address. Dr. Shulkin highlighted areas for improvement for VA centers which included aging buildings, access to care and quality of care. Dr. Shulkin noted that 14 VA Medical Centers were given 1 star ratings, the lowest on the scale. It’s a much different story at the Oscar G Johnson facility in Iron Mountain. The Johnson VA Medical Center earned a 5 star rating that ranks them 7th out of the 128 VA Medical Centers in providing quality care. The Johnson Center also was recognized as the 8th best place to work among all VA facilities based on the Federal Employee View Point Survey. The Oscar G Johnson facility covers 24 counties in Michigan and Wisconsin which is over 25,800 square miles.
