(IRON MOUNTAIN, MI.)– The Breitung Township man accused in the stabbing incident of a Dickinson County sheriff’s deputy been deemed found competent to stand trial.
Twenty three year old Matthew David Johnson is scheduled to appear for a Preliminary Examination 0n May 30th.
Johnson remains lodged in the Dickinson County Jail. He is charged with Assault With Intent to Commit Murder, Resisting or Obstructing a Police Officer, Possession of Marijuana and Violation of the Domestic Violence Law.
Dickinson County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the home on the Sportsman’s Club Road for a Domestic Violence report. During the attempt to talk with Johnson he located a knife and stabbed a deputy. The deputy was wearing a Kevlar knife which protected him from serious injury or worse according to the sheriff. Johnson continued to resist officers and a Tazer was used to apprehend him.
