(FLORENCE, Wis. — The investigation of two traffic crashes in Florence County continues. The first accident involved a fully loaded semi rig operated a 54-year-old Wausaukee man who died in the accident when a vehicle operated by a 60-year-old Quinnesec man drove into the path of the oncoming semi. Both were trapped in their vehicles and were extricated. The accident at the intersection of Highway 101 and County Road C in the town of Fence, according to Florence County Sheriff Jeff Rickaby. The semi-truck rolled over after they collided. A reconstruction of the crash was conducted by Wisconsin State Patrol. Florence County Sheriff’s Office deputies were assisted by the Fence and Florence volunteer fire departments, Florence Rescue Squad, Goodman Rescue, Wisconsin State Patrol, Beacon Ambulance, and the Fence Post Store. A second accident occurred in Spread Eagle. A 28-year-old Cordell Rice of Green Bay, was injured in a single vehicle rollover accident on U.S. 2 near Twin Falls Road in Spread Eagle. He was driving west when he failed to negotiate the curve. He was transported to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. Sheriff Rickaby said the man had been involved in an altercation at an Iron Mountain bar, and city police assisted in identifying him at the scene. He was taken to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital where he was treated for his injuries. Several citations were issued, including impaired driving, pending the results of a blood test. The Florence Fire Department and Rescue Squad and Beacon Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
